Business Challenge
"Saving energy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions”, is the current message in the fight against global warming. Energy savings are at the forefront of the actions to contribute to the sustainability of human activities. Organizations have a major role to play by controlling their energy consumption and reducing their energy bill. Reducing energy costs also plays a strategic role in that it leads to higher financial profitability and a competitive advantage.

What are Energy Management Systems?
Energy Management Systems offer a systematic approach to monitor and reduce the energy consumption in all kinds of organizations. ISO 50001 is the standard for Energy Management Systems. It offers a comprehensive set of guidelines to meet carbon emissions reduction requirements. ISO 50001 is based on regulatory compliance and has the same structure as ISO 14001. It can be integrated easily to existing Quality, Safety and/or Environment Managements Systems.

What are the key benefits?
Get the assurance that your Energy Management System offers the maximum potential for energy consumption reduction and energy cost cutting and that it stays up-to-date and efficient .
Demonstrate to all stakeholders your commitment to environmental preservation as well as cost reductions and profitability.
Raise your staff’s awareness on your company resolution to reduce energy consumption resulting in new behaviors aimed at saving energy.

ISO 14001 or ISO 50001?
ISO 14001 addresses energy as part of the use of natural resources and environmental impact, amongst requirements to manage environmental impact. Both standards have a similar result: reduced environmental impact, yet they have different objectives, paths, requirements and benefits. ISO 50001 is focused more on the optimization of consumption leading to financial savings. An organization can be certified to ISO 50001 without having an ISO 14001 management system.
